Mother/Daughter Night

While the boys were away (Fathers and Sons), the girls and I had a good time together as well. I took the girls out to dinner to the Pizza Factory. We drove away with our left-overs on the top of the car, but remembered and retrieved them before losing them! Boy, the car sure seemed heavy (Cari actually made a comment about that)....oh, it was all the potatoes Mike left in the trunk!!!


After dinner, we went to the church welfare farm and thinned peaches for a couple of hours. We had fun. The fruit grows close together and has to be "thinned" so that what is left will receive plenty of nourishment and grow to its full potential. At first it was hard to just pull off little green babies and throw them on the ground. It seemed wrong, and wasteful. However, it would end up being much more wasteful to leave them to grow so close together. Throughout the year, we are given many opportunities to volunteer our labor at the welfare farm. We help pick up trimmings, thin, and harvest the fruit. The fruit is taken to the cannery where it is then canned and shipped all over the world, to help the needy. I am glad we can be a part of this service. We also have opportunities to work at the cannery, canning the peaches and apricots.

I ran into my good friend, Tonya Beutler, while at the orchard. She is such a sweetheart! After working at the orchard, the girls and I went home and watched an "oldie" movie together. "Oldie" is not necessarily "goodie," and the Student Prince was disappointing. Still, it was a nice relaxing evening (the Oreos were irresistible).
