After going on a little walk, Corban and I headed home to make some lunch. He wanted a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. No problem, I've made those before....BUT....then I noticed some weeds in the yard and I started to pull them. Corban helped some, then played with the chickens, and finally reminded me it was time for that sandwich. As we headed inside, I remembered one of the school secretaries had called yesterday with a question about an immunization date. Before forgetting to get back to her, I began looking up the information she needed. So, Corban decided to take matters into his own hands. I watched as he buttered two pieces of bread...

...then ate some of that butter.

I explained to him that we do not eat butter by itself, and certainly never put a knive in our mouth. He said, "oh."

I took the knife from him and spread out the butter he had on his bread. He was not happy that I was helping him and almost began to cry. He wanted to make it by himself. Sorry bud, WAY TOO MUCH BUTTER! I cleaned off the knife and gave it back to him so that he could put on some peanut butter. MMMmmmmm.....I love peanut butter.

He asked me to get the jelly for him and then gave me the knife and said, "Now, you do it all by yourself." He wasn't sure he knew how to spread jelly, so I did it for him. He said, "Mom, spread all of it around." Then, as I went back to what I was doing I heard him say, "I have to help you." Then, to himself, "no more things; just put the top of this on." As he put the pieces together (both slices covered with butter, peanut butter and jelly), he said "uh oh." But he did it. He brought his sandwich to me and asked me to cut it up in triangles.

Finally, it was time to eat it!

He ate......some....

...and then he started to fall asleep!

What a cute kid! I love how independant he is becoming. He is so much fun. I cleaned him up and laid him down for a nap. I don't ever make a sandwich with butter inside of it. I think he saw the butter on the counter and just decided to use it because it was there, and at his fingertips. I spread peanut buttter and then jelly or honey on one slice, then cover it all with a plain slice of bread. I'm ALMOST tempted to take a bite out of HIS sandwich - but I know he wouldn't be too happy to find a bite missing. MAYBE ANOTHER TIME!
