Thunder Over Utah

On Saturday, we went to the Thunder Over Utah Air Show at the St. George Municipal Airport.

 We got an early start to our day and enjoyed viewing (and climbing into) a number of different aircraft that were on display.

 The sky was overcast and made it nice to be outdoors. Toward the end of our day it became cool and windy.

 Cameron earned a Navy T-shirt by doing ten push ups!

We took a simulation ride and got to be part of a NAVY mission, traveling across the ocean in a submarine to a designated "target."  This ride had a movie screen at the front of it, making it seem like we were really on a top secret mission. All of the kids loved it.

 We found a great spot to watch the airshow among 30,000 other spectators.

 The pilot of this air vac rescue helicopter took a picture of our family.

Some of the aircraft were HUGE and it was fun to go inside them and check out their awesomeness.

 We each had a backpack of water and snacks to munch on throughout the show.

During the (4 hour long) show, we watched two WWII battle reenactments, were amazed at the F-22 Raptor fighter jet (absolute awesomeness), watched wing walker Carol Pilon as she stood atop a flying plane and did her amazing performance, and enjoyed seeing the U.S. Navy Blue Angel's perform their thrilling aerobic team maneuvers in their F-18 Hornet fighter jets. There were some other aerobatic demonstrations as well (including a P-51 Mustang) and each was a thrill to see.

Just as the show ended, the wind started to pick up. By the time we got to the car, we were in a dust storm. We waited over an hour in our car before attempting to leave the crowded parking area. A few people flew kites in the wind as they waited for the traffic to clear. It was a WOW day!
